Mr. Knowles obtained his Bachelor of Music Degree in 1946 and Master of Arts Degree in 1948 from the University of Iowa where he majored in orchestration and accomplishing. His professional journey contains 46 years of public school teaching of bands and orchestras, 36 years as co director of the Rapid City, SD Municipal Band, and 38 years as Conductor/Music Director of the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra. He has done a number of arrangements for band and orchestra, and The Overture to the Barber of Seville is his third arrangement for clarinet choir. There might be a couple of alternatives to listen to the gang perform this summer in Rapid City, SD. Eine kleine Madmusik, a chamber music event that includes smaller ensembles from within the group will be held on Friday evening, May 16th. A Children’s Concert, that includes music for the young and young at heart, might be performed at the Rapid City Public Library downtown branch at 6:00pm Tuesday, June 24 and the Black Hills Piano Gallery at 4:00pm Sunday, June 29. The final performance of the summer before traveling to Baton Rouge can be at the Dahl Art Museum on Friday, July 25 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The bass clarinet is a musical device of the clarinet family.
